The Church of the Resurrection is a mixed economy church – meaning we do things the old way AND meet in new ways too. A full two thirds of those who walk with us belong to one or more of our groups described below – and there are many more groups. These allow us to get to know each other better, grow in our personal faith, and become servants of a world in need. They take a variety of forms from prayer groups to study groups to fellowship events, to task-oriented groups.
Dinner shuffles are inspired by the example of the extended family, we gather together for weekly dinners in larger-sized groups, typically consisting of four or more family units, whatever that family unit looks like. Each group has a vibe and feel all its own, but all have a desire to create deep bonds of commitment and community, modelling spiritual life for our kids in our neighbourhoods. We make meals together. We share food. We help each other with the dishes. We open our homes for hospitality. And we come as we are: in all our imperfections, with our dirty kitchens, and without pretension.
Women’s Breakfast is a supportive and loving group at the Resurrection and is open to all women. We have been meeting on the first Saturday of each month at 9am for more than ten years.
The past two years we have been meeting through Zoom.
We hope to start meeting again in person very soon – downstairs at the Church for a shared breakfast, and a time of learning from Dr. Marion Taylor and prayer, as well as good times making new friends and meeting old friends. There’s a true welcome in this group and we look forward to welcoming YOU.
The Breakfast Cafe is a weekly Bible study under the able direction of Marion Taylor, Professor of Old Testament at Wycliffe College. We dig deep into the scriptures. Our general plan is to take one book of the bible and go through it one chapter per week. No matter if you are new to the church or have been around “forever”, we welcome you to join us sometime and check us out! We currently meet on Zoom Sundays beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The Resurrection Garden exists to serve the members of the community in and surrounding the Church by providing a place for rest, refreshment, fellowship, enjoying biodiversity and gardening. The garden was started in 2011 by a core team who were interested in beautifying the property and creating a community project. In 2012 the south lawn was transformed into a full-scale community garden, inviting members of The Church of the Resurrection to garden alongside neighbours. In 2019, the church was awarded a PollinateTO grant from the City of Toronto to create a pollinator garden in the east half. The garden now supports biodiversity of bees and butterflies. These species contribute to the pollination of food crops on the west side.
Sit in our garden, play in the sandbox, and enjoy nature. Look at the sun and shade on the leaves, listen for the birds and the bees, and smell the ground and flowers!
